Founded in 1978, the Gateway Writing Project is sponsored by the University of Missouri-St. Louis and is the official St. Louis site of the National Writing Project. GWP is also a member of the Missouri Writing Projects Network, which connects the five writing project sites across the state. Through these institutional partnerships, GWP serves teachers and students in urban, suburban, and rural districts. With a focus on improving literacy teaching and learning, we provide professional development for classroom teachers, support teachers as writers, and promote teacher leadership. We also host a variety of youth writing programs. Teachers who want to join our network and become teacher consultants with the Gateway Writing Project and the National Writing Project should inquire about our annual summer institute.
